stevia blaadje
‘Stevia’ is certainly not a new discovery. It has already been used for hundreds of years in many places in the world. However, its introduction in Europe is new! The plant that is popularly called Stevia or honey herb is actually called in full: Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni.
It is often called ‘sweetest herb in the world’ in many places. Several countries have been using Stevia as a natural sweetener for years. Some of these are: Brazil, Japan, China, Paraguay, Argentina, Russia, South Korea, Indonesia, Slovakia, Thailand, Israel, Australia and New Zealand. Even Switzerland did not miss the boat.
In the United States and in Europe sweeteners from Stevia have recently been approved to be used in food as a sweetener.
